How Often Should You Service Your AC in Florida?

The short answer: twice a year

In most of the country, one AC tune-up a year is enough. In Southwest Florida, your air conditioner can run 10 months out of 12, so we recommend two visits per year — once in spring before the heavy cooling season and once in fall.

A system that runs twice as many hours wears twice as fast. Skipping maintenance is the number one reason we see avoidable mid-summer breakdowns in Fort Myers and Cape Coral.

What a professional tune-up includes

A proper maintenance visit is more than a filter change. Our 20-point inspection covers:

• Refrigerant level and leak check
• Condenser and evaporator coil cleaning
• Drain line flush (a clogged drain is the top cause of water damage calls)
• Electrical connections tightened and tested
• Thermostat calibration and airflow measurement

Signs you should not wait for your next visit

Warm air from the vents, ice on the refrigerant lines, new noises, or a sudden jump in your electric bill all mean something is wrong. Catching it early is almost always cheaper — a capacitor replaced today beats a compressor replaced next month.

What you can do yourself

Change or wash your air filter every 30–60 days (monthly if you have pets), keep at least two feet of clearance around the outdoor unit, and rinse the condenser coil gently with a garden hose a few times a year. Leave refrigerant and electrical work to a licensed technician.
